Clemson coach Dabo Swinney expressed confidence in his team’s ability to improve and become a top-notch program despite the loss of several key players. The Tigers fell short against Texas in the College Football Playoff, but Swinney sees potential in his returning talent.
Swinney is certain that all but one current offensive lineman will return next season, with quarterback Cade Klubnik expected to come back. On defense, he expects linebacker DeMonte Capehart and cornerback Tre Williams to remain, despite uncertainty surrounding their plans.
The team’s losses are minimal, with only linebacker Barrett Carter and receiver R.J. Mickens gone for good. Swinney believes the return of several young players will propel Clemson forward, citing a “lot of great young talent” at linebacker and corner.
With the addition of portal recruits and incoming freshmen, Swinney is hopeful that his program can take significant strides in the coming year. He views this season as an opportunity for growth and improvement, with his primary goal being to build on the foundation established this year.
“We got a chance to be a really, really good football team,” Swinney said.
