120-Foot Asteroid to Fly Past Earth on Christmas Eve

A massive asteroid, dubbed “Christmas Eve asteroid” due to its close approach on December 24, is set to skim past Earth. The asteroid, measuring between 95 to 230 feet in diameter, will pass at a speed of 14,743 mph and make its closest approach at 02:56 am GMT on Christmas Eve.

NASA’s Asteroid Watch dashboard has confirmed that the asteroid poses no risk of collision with Earth. It is expected to safely pass at a distance of approximately 4.48 million miles (7.21 million kilometers) from our planet, which is about 18 times the distance between Earth and the Moon.

This asteroid is the largest of five asteroids set to make close approaches to Earth in the near future. The Asteroid Watch dashboard tracks these objects and provides details about their closest approach, including size and distance from Earth. The dashboard serves as an important tool for monitoring space rocks and informing the public about potential risks.
