Cowboys’ McCarthy Future Uncertain Amid Rebuilding Efforts

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones acknowledged discussions about the team’s future, but did not specifically address coach Mike McCarthy’s potential return in 2025. The team has won four of its last five games to improve to 7-8 despite missing key players like quarterback Dak Prescott.

Jones praised McCarthy’s performance over the past few weeks, but stopped short of endorsing his return. “We’re just talking about what is positive right now,” Jones said. “I’m very impressed with how this team and its young players are playing.”

McCarthy, whose contract is expiring, has a 49-33 regular-season record with the Cowboys. However, the team has not advanced past the divisional round of the playoffs since his arrival.

When asked about his status, McCarthy emphasized that he’s focused on the coaching staff and taking care of what’s in front of them. “I understand it [change] is part of this industry,” he said. “I am at a different point in my life.” The Cowboys’ rebuilding efforts are ongoing, with several key players missing from the roster due to injuries.
