Alec Baldwin Case Reinstated After Prosecution Withdraws Appeal

Actor Alec Baldwin’s case in the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on a movie set is officially over after prosecutors withdrew their appeal to reinstate criminal charges against him. The decision was made by Special Prosecutor Kari Morrissey, who dismissed an involuntary manslaughter charge against Baldwin in July.

Attorney Gloria Allred, representing Hutchins’ relatives, expressed outrage over the decision, stating that there was no justice for her client’s family. She vowed that their civil case against Baldwin will proceed.

Baldwin’s trial in March 2024 was marred by revelations about ammunition being brought into the sheriff’s office, which prosecutors deemed unrelated to Hutchins’ killing. However, Allred claims investigators “buried” this evidence and filed a successful motion to dismiss.

Legal analyst John Day believes that the attorney general made the correct decision, citing the complexities of the case and the need for the state to exhaust all appeals before pursuing further action. The outcome may have little impact on the success or failure of Baldwin’s civil lawsuit.

Baldwin’s attorneys stated that the withdrawn appeal is a victory for their client, emphasizing that he committed no crime in the tragic incident.
