Hanna Katzir, an Israeli hostage who was held by Hamas for over three months before being released in November 2023, has passed away at the age of 78. Her body of work is now a grim reminder of the devastating consequences of her ordeal.
Katzir’s daughter, Carmit Palty Katzir, described her mother as “a woman, wife, and devoted mother who was all about love.” After her release from captivity, Katzir struggled to cope with the physical and emotional trauma she experienced. Her medical condition worsened in December 2023, according to an interview with army radio.
During her time in captivity, Katzir was subjected to starvation and lost a significant amount of weight. She also received medication that should not have been given to her. Despite being recorded alive twice during captivity, Elad’s body was found buried in the courtyard of Islamic Jihad’s headquarters and returned to Israel in April.
The family is calling for action from the government to improve hostage policies and ensure the safe return of missing Israelis. Katzir’s funeral will be held on Tuesday at 4:00 P.M. in Nir Oz cemetery.
