Alec Baldwin’s legal woes stemming from the 2021 “Rust” shooting that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins have officially come to an end. Special prosecutor Kari Morrissey announced on Monday that she is withdrawing prosecutors’ notice of appeal, effectively dropping the case.
Morrissey stated that her decision was made with the hope that outstanding lawsuits would bring some measure of justice to Hutchins’ family. Baldwin’s attorneys have repeatedly maintained that he committed no crime in the incident.
The news comes after a contentious period, during which Morrissey appealed a lower court judge’s dismissal of Baldwin’s involuntary manslaughter charge. The appeal was met with resistance from Hutchins’ family and her mother, Olga Solovey, who has been vocal about her outrage over Baldwin’s actions on set.
Baldwin had previously settled a lawsuit with Hutchins’ family in 2022. He has also made recent appearances on TV shows, including a reality show with his family and “Saturday Night Live.”
