NBA Referee Corrects Mistake in Favor of Drummond

A bizarre incident occurred during Monday night’s game between the Philadelphia 76ers and San Antonio Spurs. Center Andre Drummond was initially ejected for a foul on Spurs star Victor Wembanyama, but video replay overturned the ejection and allowed him to return to the game.

After reviewing the footage, officials determined that Drummond’s contact with Wembanyama was incidental, ruling out any intentional foul. This decision led to Wembanyama being given a technical foul instead, which resulted in the Spurs losing a point.

Wembanyama disputed the call, stating he simply stepped on his foot and fell, while Drummond claimed he didn’t mean to make contact with him. The incident left coach Nick Nurse describing it as “really strange.”

The game ended with Philadelphia winning 111-106, but not before two players were ejected: Drummond initially walked off the court, only to be called back in, and Sixers star Joel Embiid was ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct.
