AMD Unveils Radeon RX 9070 XT Flagship GPU Ahead of RDNA 4 Launch

AMD has announced its highly-anticipated Radeon RX 9070 XT flagship graphics card, signaling a major comeback for the company’s high-end GPU lineup. The new GPU ditches the previously rumored Radeon RX 8800 XT branding and paves the way for AMD’s next-generation RDNA 4 architecture.

Leaks suggest that the RX 9070 XT will compete directly with Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4080, matching its performance in ray tracing capabilities. Although AMD hasn’t made an official announcement yet, leaked information points to a new Radeon 9000 series lineup.

A recent leak by Apoleon, a Chiphell forum editor and reviewer, revealed the GPU’s name as the RX 9070 XT, while another leaker, All_The_Watts, shared a series of tweets listing the entire range of new Radeon card names. AMD has also confirmed its RDNA 4 launch date for early 2025, with rumors suggesting it could happen in just two weeks.

Although initial specs suggest that the RX 9070 XT may not match the RTX 4080’s performance, further improvements to ray tracing capabilities in the new architecture may change this. With AMD set to announce its next-gen graphics cards at CES 2025, gamers can look forward to a competitive landscape for high-end GPUs.
