Artificial Intelligence (AI) startup xAI has secured a massive $6 billion investment in its latest funding round, marking one of the largest investments in the sector. The round saw participation from prominent tech and finance giants, including NVIDIA, AMD, A16Z, Blackrock, Fidelity Management & Research Company, Kingdom Holdings, Lightspeed, MGX, Morgan Stanley, OIA, QIA, Sequoia Capital, Valor Equity Partners, and Vy Capital.
The investment will support xAI’s scaling infrastructure and enable the company to further accelerate its research and product development. The funding is expected to fuel xAI’s growth in AI systems that are truthful, competent, and beneficial for humanity.
Notably, Elon Musk has welcomed NVIDIA’s investment, saying it’s an honor to have them on board. xAI has also achieved notable technical milestones in recent months, including the launch of its world-class AI supercomputer Colossus, which boasts 100,000 NVIDIA Hopper GPUs.
Other significant achievements by xAI include the deployment of its large language model Grok 2 and the introduction of the xAI API, providing developers with global access to its foundational models. Additionally, xAI has unveiled an image generation model for Grok called Aurora.
Looking ahead, xAI is currently training its most advanced model yet, Grok 3, which will be used in new consumer and enterprise products. The funding round is expected to accelerate the company’s hiring efforts aggressively, enabling it to build a more comprehensive team of AI researchers and engineers.
