Apple, the world’s leading smartphone manufacturer, is working closely with Samsung Display to develop a zero-bezel OLED panel for its iPhones. The technology, dubbed “All Around Full Screen,” aims to create a seamless display that wraps around the front of the phone, eliminating bezels.
According to reports, Apple requested this technology from both Samsung Display and LG Display, with Samsung being the primary partner. The implementation would be similar to the Apple Watch, with a flat panel cascading down on all sides.
However, significant technical hurdles remain, including advancements in optical clear adhesive and thin film encapsulation technologies. These advancements are crucial to prevent side view distortion and integrate antennae into the display.
As a result, Korean media outlets predict that a zero-bezel iPhone may not arrive until 2026 at the earliest. Meanwhile, Samsung is expected to debut this technology on its own Galaxy S flagship series first. With its own flagships likely to feature the innovation, it’s clear that Apple’s iPhone will have to wait for further development.
