Microsoft adds AirDrop-like sharing to Windows 10 and 11 with Phone Link

Microsoft has added a new feature to Windows 10 and 11 that allows seamless file sharing between PCs and Android phones, similar to Apple’s AirDrop. The tool, which is part of the Phone Link app, enables users to right-click on files and share them directly with their phone without needing approval from the mobile device.

The process is straightforward: simply click “Share” and select Phone Link, then Windows will beam the file over to your phone. There’s no need to accept the transfer on the phone side, as the connection has already been established through the Phone Link app.

System requirements for this feature are not overly strict:

* A PC running Windows 10 (with the May 2019 update or later) or Windows 11
* An Android device running Android 9.0 or later
* The Windows app version 1.24032.518.0 or later on your Android mobile device
* Phone Link version 1.24032.156.0 or later

The feature is currently available in the Release Preview channel, which means it may become available to all Windows 10 and 11 users soon. This addition brings Windows one step closer to matching Apple’s macOS features, allowing for easy file sharing between devices.
