Teddy Bridgewater Returns to NFL with Detroit Lions

Former NFL quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has come out of retirement to sign with the Detroit Lions, the team announced on Thursday. Just two weeks after leading his high school alma mater, Miami Northwestern High School, to a state championship, Bridgewater has rejoined the league.

Bridgewater, 32, had been coaching at Miami Northwestern since retiring from football last season and was hired by the Lions in August. However, he now plans to return to the field for the remainder of the season. The team’s head coach, Dan Campbell, expressed his excitement about Bridgewater’s signing, citing the veteran quarterback’s experience and professionalism.

Bridgewater has a long history with the NFL, playing nine seasons with six teams before retiring after last season. He had thrown for 15,120 yards and 75 touchdowns in 79 career games. The Lions are hoping that Bridgewater will bring a level of leadership to their team, which currently features starter Jared Goff and backup Hendon Hooker.

The signing also brings Jake Fromm back into the mix, as he moves from the practice squad to the active depth chart alongside Bridgewater and Hooker. With the regular season wrapping up soon, the Lions are set for two games against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night and the Minnesota Vikings in Week 18.
