Israeli Airstrike Kills Five Palestinian Journalists in Gaza

An airstrike by Israel has killed five journalists working for the Quds News Network outside a hospital in Gaza. The military claims it targeted Islamic Jihad militants but footage shows damage to a press vehicle.

The attack happened at Al-Awda Hospital, where several young men gathered to mourn the victims’ deaths. Many were weeping as their bodies were laid out in white shrouds with blue vests.

The Committee to Protect Journalists reports that more than 130 Palestinian reporters have been killed since October last year. Palestine was the deadliest place for journalists in 2023, according to a report by the International Federation of Journalers.

Israel has restricted foreign journalists from entering Gaza and banned Al Jazeera’s six Gaza-based reporters, accusing them of being militants. However, the network denies these claims, saying Israel is trying to suppress its coverage.

The conflict began with Hamas-led attacks in October 2023, resulting in over 1,200 civilian deaths and 250 abductions. Since then, at least 45,000 Palestinians have been killed, mostly women and children. The war has caused widespread destruction and displaced around 90% of Gaza’s population, leaving many living in overcrowded tent camps.
