A 51-year-old man went overboard while on a seven-night Western Caribbean voyage aboard the Norwegian Epic cruise ship, which was sailing from Canaveral, Florida to Nassau, Bahamas. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. on Thursday.
According to Norwegian Cruise Line, the man was traveling with his family and was wearing a blue shirt when he went overboard. A rescue operation was launched, but it was ultimately called off so the ship could continue its voyage.
The search for the missing man was led by the Bahamas Rescue Coordination Center and involved multiple ships, including the Holland America Line’s Zuiderdam. However, after an extensive search, authorities declared the mission unsuccessful.
Norwegian Cruise Line has expressed condolences to the man’s loved ones and is providing support to his family during this difficult time. The cause of the incident remains unclear.
