Lily-Rose Depp stars as Ellen Hutter, a newlywed who’s haunted by a vampire, in the new “Nosferatu” movie. Director Robert Eggers knew she was his star from their first meeting.
Depp told Yahoo Entertainment that she really wanted the role and gave it her all. To prepare for her character, she worked extensively with movement coach Marie-Gabrielle Rotie to perfect Ellen’s movements.
The film’s focus on Ellen’s perspective is a departure from previous adaptations of the classic Dracula tale. Eggers said he wanted to explore “folkloric vampires” and create a new villain. Bill SkarsgĂ„rd plays Count Orlok, a vampire with a distinctive mustache inspired by Vlad the Impaler.
Eggers has been working on the film for years, and Depp’s audition was instrumental in securing her role. Her initial performance moved him to tears, as well as the casting director and videographer. The film is now in theaters, offering a fresh take on the classic Dracula tale.
