A 62-year-old Chinese man, Fan Weiqiu, has been sentenced to death by a court after ramming his car into a crowd of people exercising outside a stadium in southern China’s Guangdong province, killing 35 and injuring 43.
The incident occurred on November 11, with authorities alleging that Fan was upset about his recent divorce settlement, particularly the division of financial assets. The prosecution claims that this sparked a “dangerous” act of road rage, putting public safety at risk.
This is not the first such incident in China, where another man received a suspended death sentence for driving into a crowd of schoolchildren in Hunan province last month, injuring 30 people, including 18 children.
