Shaquil Barrett Returns to Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have re-signed former Pro Bowl outside linebacker Shaquil Barrett. The move comes after Barrett was waived by the Miami Dolphins earlier this week. The 19.5 sack leader in 2019 will now sign with the Buccaneers, forgoing the practice squad and joining the 53-man roster.

Barrett’s return to Tampa Bay is a significant development for the team, which has struggled with outside linebacker production this season. The majority of sacks have come from inside linebackers Lavonte David and Vita Vea, who have notched six and five.5 sacks, respectively.

The Buccaneers’ re-signing of Barrett marks a reunion for the player, who spoke highly of the organization in an August podcast interview. He cited his daughter’s passing and the team’s support as reasons for his return. With two games remaining in the 2024 season, Tampa Bay remains hopeful of making the playoffs for the fifth consecutive year.

The Bucs’ playoff hopes depend on several factors, including the Atlanta Falcons’ performance. The Buccaneers will need to win out and rely on the Falcons’ losses to secure a spot in the postseason.
