Young Immigrant Swears Oath to Fight for America

Sebastián Villaorduña, a newly naturalized US citizen, has already shown his commitment to defending the country he’s just sworn allegiance to. The 18-year-old from Peru joined the Army as part of its recruiting efforts, which have been struggling to find new recruits due to low enlistment rates.

Villaorduña was one of 121 aspiring soldiers who gathered at Fort Jackson in South Carolina for a historic ceremony on November 25th. The group hailed from five continents and over a dozen countries, all united by their desire to serve in the US military.
