NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5080 Blackwell GPU Priced at $1,587 AUD, a $300 Leap from Previous Gen

NVIDIA has released information on its upcoming GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs, including the “Blackwell” variant. According to a leaked listing at an Australian retail store, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 will have a suggested retail price (MSRP) of around AUD $1,500. However, it’s essential to note that this is not the final price consumers will pay.

The YouTube channel Vex claims that when including additional “premium tax” applied during GPU launches, the actual price can reach up to AUD $1,739 for the end user. This represents an increase of over 30% from its previous-gen counterpart, which had a starting price of AUD $1,199.

The GeForce RTX 5080 will feature 16 GB of GDDR7 VRAM and operate at speeds of 32 Gbps, which is significantly faster than the 23 Gbps solution in the RTX 4080 series. The GPU core is based on the GB203 model and is expected to offer improved performance.

NVIDIA’s decision to use GDDR7 memory chips has been a major factor contributing to the price increase. It appears that NVIDIA will be reaping the benefits of this new technology, which may result in higher-end components for its next-gen GPUs.

As the launch of NVIDIA’s RTX 50 Series GPUs approaches, many are looking forward to the mid-range SKUs like the GeForce RTX 5070. While the premium Blackwell variant is certainly an expensive option, it will be interesting to see how NVIDIA’s pricing strategy unfolds in the coming weeks.
