Alcon Laboratories, the manufacturer of popular eye drops, has recalled a single lot of its Systane Lubricant Eye Drops Ultra PF due to fungal contamination in one of its products. The recall was initiated after a consumer complained about a foreign material observed inside a sealed vial.
According to the FDA, the affected product is sold as 25 single-use sterile vials of solution for temporary relief from burning eyes and irritation. However, the presence of fungal contamination could lead to eye infections that may be vision-threatening and life-threatening in rare cases.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled product with an expiration date of 2025/09 are advised to stop using it immediately and return it to their point of purchase for a refund or replacement. The company is also notifying its distributors to dispose of any remaining stock of the recalled products.
The recall affects stores in several states, including Alabama, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, and Virginia, according to Kroger and other retailers.
