A nationwide recall has been issued for Alcon Laboratories’ Systane Lubricant Eye Drops Ultra P-F due to possible fungal contamination. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the voluntary recall after a consumer complaint reported foreign material inside a sealed vial, which was later determined to be fungal in nature.
The affected products are packaged in cardboard cartons containing 25 single-use plastic vials of preservative-free solution for ophthalmic use. These eye drops are intended for temporary relief from dry eye symptoms caused by burning and irritation.
No reported injuries have been associated with the recalled product, but users are advised to stop using them immediately and return them for a full refund. Fungal contamination can cause eye infections that may threaten vision or even be life-threatening in immunocompromised individuals.
To identify affected products, look for the green and pink carton design, “Systane” and “ULTRA PF” brand names on the front of the carton, and the “25 vials” package size.
