Leaked RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 Pricing in China Suggest Blackwell Price Hike

Nvidia’s upcoming RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 GPUs have been listed for $2,600 and $1,350 at a Chinese retailer, respectively. The leaked pricing suggests that Nvidia may see an eye-popping price hike, especially considering the RTX 5090 is about 37% more expensive than the RTX 4090 when adjusted for VAT.

The RTX 5090 is reportedly slated for Q1 2025 and will likely debut at Nvidia’s keynote on January 6. The GPU is expected to feature 21,760 CUDA cores and 32GB of GDDR7 memory, running at 28 Gbps speeds. However, it’s essential to take the pricing with a grain of salt, as it may be subject to change in the lead-up to any launch.

According to one analyst, the RTX 5080 is likely to have similar performance to the RTX 4090, which could explain the comparable pricing. Meanwhile, Nvidia has been increasing prices from generation to generation, following a ratio of performance gain that some find unacceptable.

The situation has sparked concerns about the value of Nvidia’s GPUs, with many feeling that the market has become a monopoly, leading to inflated prices. Some speculate that AMD may respond by launching a 7900XT-level card between $500 and $600 in this generation.
