Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin has secured a license from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to launch its reusable rocket, New Glenn, into space. The company received the Part 450 commercial space launch license, authorizing its first launch and paving the way for orbital missions.
The FAA granted the license after verifying that Blue Origin met all necessary safety, environmental, and licensing requirements. The new license allows Blue Origin to conduct orbital missions from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, with the reusable New Glenn first stage landing on a barge in the Atlantic Ocean.
Named after John Glenn, the first American to orbit Earth, the rocket is designed for 25 flights or more and will launch payloads into high-energy orbits. The company claims that its operation will be comparable to commercial airliners but with cleaner fuel, reduced waste, and lower costs.
