Brock Bowers Breaks NFL Record for Rookie TEs

Brock Bowers has made history by breaking Mike Ditka’s 63-year-old record for receiving yardage by a rookie tight end. Bowers needed 16 games to match Ditka’s achievement, which was set in a 1961 14-game season. The Las Vegas Raiders’ tight end caught a 13-yard pass from Aidan O’Connell late in the second quarter to move ahead of Ditka.

To put this record into perspective, Ditka averaged 19.2 yards per catch and reeled in 56 passes for 12 touchdowns last season. Bowers has already set a rookie tight-end record with 101 receptions, four more than Puka Nacua’s mark from last season.

Bowers’ impressive performance has drawn comparisons to Ditka’s legendary career. The former Chicago Bears player was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1988 and had success as both a player and head coach. However, it remains to be seen if Ditka will un-retire next week just to prove he can still achieve Bowers’ level of performance.
