Match Group, the world’s largest online dating company, is launching an artificial intelligence assistant aimed at transforming the online dating experience. The new tool will help users with tasks such as selecting photos and writing bios, recommending messages to send to matched partners, and providing coaching for those struggling to get matches.
The AI assistant, expected to be released in March 2025, will conduct a spoken interview with users to determine their preferences and provide personalized suggestions. This technology is part of Match Group’s “AI transformation” initiative, which aims to integrate AI across the entire dating experience.
According to Bernard Kim, chief executive of Match Group, this technology has the potential to revolutionize online dating by influencing every aspect of the experience, from profile creation to matching and connecting for dates.
However, not everyone is optimistic about the introduction of AI in online dating. Dr. Anastasiia Babash, a PhD candidate at the University of Tartu, raises concerns that relying on AI could lead to users losing their personal agency and diminishing the ability to engage in real conversations.
Additionally, experts warn that companies like Match Group may struggle to safeguard the vast amounts of data collected by their algorithms, leading to potential biases and security risks. Faye Iosotaluno, chief executive of Tinder, acknowledges these concerns but emphasizes her company’s commitment to using AI responsibly.
The introduction of AI in online dating has sparked debate about its benefits and drawbacks. As Match Group continues to invest in this technology, users will have to weigh the potential advantages against the risks.
