Saquon Barkley became the ninth running back in NFL history to reach 2,000 yards rushing in a season, achieving the milestone with a 23-yard run in Sunday’s 41-7 win over the Dallas Cowboys. The Eagles’ star running back now trails Eric Dickerson’s record of 2,105 by exactly 100 yards.
Barkley finished the game with 167 yards on 31 carries and is set to face his old team, the New York Giants, in a matchup that could determine whether he attempts to break the record. Coach Nick Sirianni has yet to confirm whether Barkley will rest or play in the game against the Giants.
The Eagles have secured their NFC East title and No. 2 seed in the conference, making the game somewhat meaningless for Barkley’s pursuit of the record. However, if he chooses to go after it, the Giants’ defense would be a tough test.
Barkley has stated that his primary goal is to win a Super Bowl, but taking down Dickerson’s mark could cement his legacy as one of the greatest running backs in NFL history.
