A cancer nutritionist has identified two foods that increase the risk of cancer: alcohol and processed meats. Nichole Andrews, a registered dietitian nutritionist with expertise in oncology, claims that these two foods are the only ones that significantly contribute to cancer risk.
Nichole emphasizes that sugar is not directly linked to cancer growth, but rather excess fat tissue is associated with 13 types of cancer, including breast and colorectal cancer. She advises focusing on reducing fat tissue through balanced meals, regular exercise, and muscle building.
The nutritionist stresses that it’s the amount of alcohol consumed, not the type, that increases cancer risk. She recommends moderation when it comes to sugar intake as well, but notes that excess calorie consumption from any food leads to weight gain and increased cancer risk.
Cancer Research UK supports Nichole’s claims, stating that processed meat is a proven cause of cancer. The organization emphasizes that consuming nitrates and nitrites in processed meats can damage bowel cells, leading to bowel cancer.
Processed meats include hot dogs, deli meats, sausages, bacon, and other pre-cooked meats that have been modified with chemical preservatives such as nitrates and nitrites.
