A former OpenAI employee who accused the company of violating copyright laws has died under mysterious circumstances. Suchir Balaji, 26, was found dead in his San Francisco apartment on November 26. His mother, Poornima Ramarao, claims that the police ruled it a suicide but she disputes this. She hired a private investigator and conducted a second autopsy, which did not confirm the cause of death stated by the authorities.
Ramarao alleges that Balaji’s apartment was ransacked and there were signs of struggle in the bathroom, suggesting that someone hit him. She is demanding an FBI investigation into her son’s death. Billionaire Elon Musk has also responded to Ramarao’s post, expressing doubts about the official cause of death. Suchir Balaji had been a vocal critic of OpenAI’s practices, alleging that the company was training its AI models on copyrighted material without permission.
