NBA Postgame Ejections Explained by Marc Davis

NBA postgame ejection explanations from Crew Chief Marc Davis

Crew Chief Marc Davis broke down the series of ejections that occurred during last night’s Miami at Houston game in a post-game interview with The Athletic’s Kelly Iko.

The first ejection occurred when Fred VanVleet was assessed for five seconds without being granted a timeout. When asked about it, VanVleet became agitated and walked away before re-engaging with Davis to make matters worse. This led to his ejection from the game.

Ime Udoka’s ejection came after he made unsportsmanlike comments directed towards Davis following VanVleet’s dismissal.

The second wave of ejections saw Amen Thompson and Tyler Herro go at it during a dead ball, resulting in both players being ejected for fighting fouls. Jalen Green was also ejected as his actions escalated the altercation. Terry Rozier followed suit with similar behavior that contributed to the escalating situation, ultimately leading to his ejection. Assistant coach Ben Sullivan was assessed a technical foul and subsequently ejected for unsportsmanlike comments towards Davis.

Notably, neither Jalen Green nor Terry Rozier were seen attempting to de-escalate the situation before their respective ejections.
