Las Vegas Raiders rookie tight end Brock Bowers set two NFL rookie pass-catching records in a 25-10 win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. He surpassed Pro Football Hall of Famer Mike Ditka’s 63-year-old mark for most receiving yards in a season by a rookie tight end, and also broke the record for most catches in a season by any NFL rookie.
Bowers had seven catches for 77 yards, giving him 108 catches for the year with one game to play. His teammate, quarterback Aidan O’Connell, praised Bowers’ consistency, saying he’s “routinely consistent” and working hard to maintain his routine.
Raiders coach Antonio Pierce also expressed admiration for Bowers, calling him “special” and noting that he doesn’t crave attention but rather focuses on winning and being happy. The Raiders have won two games in a row for the first time this season, after enduring a 10-game losing streak.
The team’s recent performance was overshadowed by travel issues, as they arrived at their hotel just before midnight local time due to problems with their charter. However, Bowers remained optimistic, saying that “the wins are huge” and “the vibes are way better.”
