A private jet nearly crashed into a Delta flight taking off from Los Angeles International Airport on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred when the chartered Embraer E135 jet, carrying the Gonzaga men’s college basketball team, proceeded to cross the hold bars without stopping despite instructions from air traffic controllers.
Air Traffic Control had repeatedly warned the pilots to stop, calling out “Stop, stop, stop!” just seconds before the private jet crossed the departing path of the Delta aircraft. However, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which is investigating the incident, the jet never actually crossed the runway edge line.
Fortunately, both planes appeared to operate normally after the abrupt halt, and officials did not report any passenger or staff injuries for either flight. The Gonzaga team went on to play UCLA the following day, losing 65-62.
