Memecoins Explode After Elon Musk’s Brief Name Change

Elon Musk briefly changed his name on X to “Kekius Maximus,” referencing the Pepe-Gladiator meme. This change sparked a massive paper gain for one lucky trader who turned $66 into $3 million in just 18 days.

The KEKIUS memecoin, a mashup of Pepe and Gladiator, was created on Dec. 13 and accumulated to $11.4 million by the end of the month before surging to $380 million at its peak on Jan. 1. Musk’s posts about the meme garnered significant attention, with one post reaching 48.2 million views.

However, after Musk changed his profile name back to Elon Musk, the market cap fell to $100.5 million. Despite this, over 23,600 investors still hold onto the KEKIUS tokens. Several other memecoins linked to Kekius Maximus also launched on Solana but failed to attract similar attention.

The recent surge of memecoins is attributed to Musk’s brief name change and his associated social media posts. However, a more serious incident involving one of Tesla’s Cybertrucks exploded in Las Vegas on Jan. 1, drawing Musk’s attention away from the KEKIUS memecoin.
