Neil Young Withdraws from Glastonbury Over BBC Involvement

Rock legend Neil Young has announced that he will not perform at this year’s Glastonbury festival, citing the involvement of the BBC as a reason for his decision. The 79-year-old Canadian musician expressed concerns that the festival is now “under corporate control” due to the partnership between the BBC and Glastonbury.

Young had been booked to play with his band Chrome Hearts at Worthy Farm in Somerset, but reportedly changed their minds after being told they would need to participate in certain activities. He believes the BBC’s involvement has compromised the festival’s independence and artistic integrity.

Glastonbury’s founder Michael Eavis is also undergoing a change of control, with his shares transferred to his daughter Emily. The festival has been experiencing increased profits and expansion plans, but Young’s decision raises questions about the impact of corporate influence on the event.

The 2025 festival lineup includes Olivia Rodrigo, Rihanna, Eminem, Sam Fender, and Ed Sheeran, with rocker Rod Stewart confirmed as the only officially booked act so far.
