Jaire Alexander’s season is likely over due to a torn posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. The Packers’ top cornerback underwent arthroscopic surgery on Tuesday and may not return this year if the team reaches the Super Bowl. With Green Bay clinched playoff spot but as the No. 7 seed, Alexander will have played just 34 of 68 games over the last four seasons.
Coach Matt LaFleur confirmed that Alexander is “most likely” done for the season, citing his knee injury. The Packers can make a clean break from Alexander this offseason, saving $6.8 million against the salary cap. With significant salary cap room available, Green Bay could sign top corners in free agency or select one in the draft.
Alexander’s injury history has been a concern, with four games since 2021 where he started but couldn’t finish. The Packers’ decision not to put him on injured reserve earlier is being reevaluated, and his future with the team beyond this year is uncertain. With a total of $226.2 million in cap allocations for 2025, including Alexander’s contract, Green Bay would have approximately $67 million under the cap next year, allowing them to pursue top corners or secure reliable options through the draft.
