No. 6 Penn State Advances to CFP Semifinals with 31-14 Fiesta Bowl Win Over No. 3 Boise State

No. 6 Penn State Nittany Lions moved one step closer to the national title game by defeating No. 3 Boise State 31-14 in the Fiesta Bowl. The win sets up a semifinal matchup against Georgia or Notre Dame at the Orange Bowl on January 9.

The Nittany Lions dominated the first quarter, taking a 14-0 lead, but Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty cut the deficit to three points with a touchdown pass in the third quarter. However, the Broncos were unable to capitalize on the play as it was called back due to a penalty. Later in the fourth quarter, Boone Maddux’s missed field goal attempt gave Penn State an opportunity to seal the game.

Nick Singleton broke a 58-yard touchdown run with 4:54 remaining, pushing the lead to three scores and securing the win for Penn State. The Nittany Lions’ dominant run game, led by Kaytron Allen and Singleton, was a key factor in their victory. However, concerns were raised about the team’s ability to put away games early, as they struggled to capitalize on opportunities.

Boise State’s Heisman Trophy runner-up Ashton Jeanty finished with 104 yards rushing, but fell short of breaking Barry Sanders’ single-season record. Penn State star tight end Tyler Warren scored two touchdowns and added six catches for 63 yards, showcasing his impressive skills.

The win also came with some injuries to key players, including edge rusher Abdul Carter, who suffered an apparent left shoulder injury in the second half. The status of both Carter and defensive lineman Dani Dennis-Sutton is uncertain, which could impact Penn State’s chances in the Orange Bowl semifinal.
