Giant Jurassic Footprints Uncovered in English Quarry

A team of over 100 researchers has discovered a “dinosaur highway” at an Oxfordshire quarry in southern England, revealing hundreds of giant prehistoric footprints dating back 166 million years. The prints are believed to be from the middle Jurassic era and belong to several different creatures, including sauropods like Cetiosaurus and carnivores like Megalosaurus.

Four sets of tracks were made by sauropods, while the fifth set was attributed to a theropod dinosaur known as Megalosaurus. The discovery includes around 200 footprints, which provide new evidence of these ancient animals. Researchers believe that the creatures may have interacted during their journey, leaving scientists with more questions than answers.

The site, located at Dewars Farm Quarry in Oxfordshire, is significant because it provides insight into the lives of dinosaurs like Cetiosaurus and Megalosaurus, which were previously known to be gentle giants. The discovery also highlights that even well-studied species like Megalosaurus still hold surprises for scientists.
