Doctors at Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare warn of a surge in emergency room visits in Memphis due to three main respiratory viruses: COVID-19, influenza, and RSV. These illnesses are spreading rapidly across the city, with cases reported by multiple family members being linked to specific surfaces or individuals.
In addition to these viruses, gastrointestinal (GI) infections such as norovirus are also being monitored for their presence in Memphis. According to Dr. Chinelo Animalu, an infectious diseases specialist, hand hygiene practices, wearing masks, and taking vitamins can help prevent the spread of illness.
