Apple has agreed to pay $95 million to settle a class-action lawsuit claiming the company’s voice-activated Siri assistant violated users’ privacy. The lawsuit alleges that Siri records private conversations without users’ consent and shares them with third parties, such as advertisers.
The settlement requires approval from US District Judge Jeffrey White and applies to tens of millions of mobile device owners who used Siri between September 2014 and December 2024. Those affected may receive up to $20 per device, including iPhones and Apple Watches.
Apple denied wrongdoing in agreeing to settle the lawsuit. The company’s net income was $93.74 billion last fiscal year, with the settlement totaling about nine hours of profit. A similar lawsuit against Google’s Voice Assistant is pending in the same court district.
