Ari Wald, Oppenheimer’s head of technical analysis, shared his thoughts on three stocks that have made it to best ideas lists from Wall Street firms for 2025. The stocks in question are Nvidia, Boeing, and Howmet Aerospace.
Wald expressed optimism about Nvidia, saying the company has maintained its momentum since the start of 2023, trading above the 200-day moving average. He believes in “letting winners run” and advocates for allowing established leaders like Nvidia to continue their winning streaks. Most analysts polled by LSEG have a buy rating on Nvidia, with an average price target implying shares can rise more than 23%.
On the other hand, Wald is cautious about Boeing, which had a rough year in 2024. He notes that the company’s shares have struggled despite the broader market being in a bull cycle. As a result, he advises investors to stay away from this stock. The average analyst surveyed by LSEG anticipates shares bouncing just over 7%.
Wald is more bullish on Howmet Aerospace, citing the company as a top idea. He notes that while the aerospace industry has been lackluster, the stock has continued to perform well. Investors can buy into the current pullback in shares, and most analysts have a buy rating on the stock with an average price target implying shares can rise more than 10%.
