‘A Complete Unknown’ Unveils Bob Dylan’s Electric Transformation

Bob Dylan’s rise to fame in the folk music scene is portrayed in James Mangold’s new film, ‘A Complete Unknown’. The movie follows a four-year span in Dylan’s life, from his 19th arrival in New York to the iconic moment at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival where he plugged in his electric guitar.

Starring Timothée Chalamet as the young Bob Dylan, the film also features Elle Fanning, Monica Barbaro, Edward Norton, Scoot McNairy, and Boyd Holbrook in supporting roles. The movie’s script was adapted by Jay Cocks, with Elijah Wald’s book ‘Dylan Goes Electric!: Newport, Seeger, Dylan, and the Night That Split the Sixties’ serving as the foundation.

Mangold, who previously explored the life of Johnny Cash in 2005’s ‘Walk the Line’, was drawn to telling Dylan’s story after meeting the musician. “You can be good at writing songs and recording them,” Mangold says, “but that doesn’t make you ready for stardom or fame.” The film has already garnered attention on the awards circuit, with nominations from the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards.

The movie is currently playing in theaters and has grossed over $31.7 million during its opening frame.
