Xavier Musketeers’ 0-4 start on the road and 1-5 away from home continued as they fell to Georgetown Hoyas at Capital One Arena. The Musketeers trailed by as many as 13 points early but rallied twice in the second half, only to come up short.
The Hoyas took control with a strong defensive performance, holding Xavier to just 35.1% shooting from the floor and forcing key stops on several crucial possessions. Georgetown’s Malik Mack led the way with 26 points, including 20 of his game-high score in the second half.
Coach Sean Miller praised his team’s resilience but acknowledged that they struggled to overcome their defensive weaknesses. “From that point on, they put us away,” Miller said. “I thought we did a pretty good job in the second half of making a run.”
Zach Freemantle returned from injury and scored 16 points for Xavier, while Dailyn Swain added 11 more. Despite the loss, Miller expressed hope that Freemantle’s return could be a turning point for the team.
The Musketeers’ struggles on offense were exacerbated by Georgetown’s aggressive defense, which forced them to miss several free throws and struggle to find rhythm throughout the game. Miller credited the Hoyas’ strong defense as one of the reasons behind Xavier’s defeat.
Xavier will look to bounce back when they host St. John’s Red Storm at Cintas Center on Tuesday.
