Renowned author Stephen King took to social media platform X to poke fun at billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk over a recent mishap involving his rocket manufacturing company SpaceX’s Falcon 9 launch vehicle.
The incident occurred when the first-stage booster of the Falcon 9 rocket toppled over in flames while landing on a droneship in the sea, subsequently exploding. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has grounded the rocket and demanded an investigation.
King, known for his horror novels, shared a tongue-in-cheek tweet about the incident: “Oops. SpaceX launches are on hold after a booster rocket toppled over in flames while landing Wednesday.”
Musk responded with a lewd remark, accompanied by an AI-generated image of King rolling in money as the antagonist character “It” from his 1986 horror novel.
This isn’t the first time King and Musk have engaged in banter on X. In June, they took turns telling jokes, with King initiating the jests and Musk responding with his own humor.
The blue-ticked profile of King on X has raised eyebrows, as he had previously stated that he didn’t subscribe to the feature. Musk responded by saying “welcome,” hinting that it was a personal favor granted by him on the platform he owns.
Musk acquired Twitter for $44 billion in October 2022 and rebranded the social media platform as X soon after.
