Ukrainian forces are making maximum efforts to prevent Russian troops from capturing Pokrovsk, a crucial logistics hub in Donetsk Oblast. Located at the intersection of vital road and rail supply routes, control over Pokrovsk would severely disrupt Ukrainian supply lines and allow Russian forces to advance deeper into Ukraine.
According to Vitalii Lytvyn, commander of an artillery reconnaissance unit, Russian forces are attempting to bypass Pokrovsk from two directions, improving their tactical position. However, Ukrainian defenders have been eliminating 300-400 Russian soldiers on the Pokrovsk front each day.
Despite being outnumbered and outgunned, Russian forces continue to deploy new units and equipment, including fiber-optic drones resistant to Ukrainian electronic warfare. The Russians aim to capture Pokrovsk, which could become a foothold for advancing towards Kostiantynivka.
The situation on the ground is dire, with reports indicating that 75% of residential buildings and 90% of critical infrastructure have been destroyed. Lytvyn condemned the Russian actions as “acts of terrorism” against civilians.
In a recent statement, Victor Trehubov, spokesperson for the Khortytsia Operational-Strategic Grouping of Forces, reported that Ukrainian defenders repelled 38 Russian attacks in the Pokrovsk direction over the past day.
