Michigan State Wins Seventh Straight, Beats Ohio State 69-62

Michigan State’s winning streak continued as they defeated Ohio State 69-62 at Value City Arena on Friday night. The Spartans improved to 12-2 overall and 3-0 in Big Ten play, snapping a five-game losing streak by double digits.

Coach Tom Izzo praised his team for coming back from an early second-half deficit, saying it was a “big win” to secure the victory. Senior guard Jaden Akins attributed the team’s success to its maturity and poise, adding that they are capable of finding ways to win in clutch situations.

The Spartans struggled with turnovers, committing 16 against Ohio State – one shy of the season high set in their last game. Izzo expressed frustration with his team’s handling of pressure, saying it will lead to losses if not addressed.

Despite the struggles, Michigan State’s bench players made key contributions, including Szymon Zapala’s season-high 15 points and Xavier Booker’s coast-to-coast drive that sparked an 8-0 run. The Spartans also limited Ohio State leading scorer Bruce Thornton to just 10 points.

Forward Coen Carr had a strong game, shooting 7-for-8 from the line, while forward Jaxon Kohler led the team in rebounding with 10. Michigan State will look to continue their winning streak as they head into their next Big Ten matchup.
