Samsung Unveils Odyssey 3D Monitor With No 3D Glasses Required

Samsung is starting 2025 with its latest attempt at popularizing 3D displays, launching the Odyssey 3D monitor. The device uses advanced technology to convert 2D content into lifelike 3D images without requiring separate glasses.

The new monitor features a lenticular lens attached to the front panel, which directs different images to each eye to create a three-dimensional effect. This is a significant improvement over Samsung’s first 3D display released in 2009, which relied on Nvidia software and glasses for a toggle between 2D and 3D views.

A notable feature of the Odyssey 3D is its ability to use artificial intelligence to analyze and convert 2D video into 3D. This technology is also used by Acer, but Samsung claims that its monitor can achieve this effect even if the content doesn’t officially support 3D. The display relies on a specialized optical lens and eye-tracking cameras to create the illusion of depth.

Samsung’s press announcement explains that the Odyssey 3D uses light field display technology to create lifelike 3D images from 2D content. Eye tracking monitors the movement of both eyes, while view mapping continuously adjusts the image to enhance depth perception.
