Two children in Oregon died of influenza in late December, according to new data released by the Oregon Health Authority (OHA). The deaths occurred during the week of Dec. 22 and no further details were provided.
Meanwhile, OHA reports that 474 people from Multnomah, Clackamas, and Washington counties have been hospitalized for the flu so far this season, a significant increase from last year’s 134 hospitalizations. The overall hospitalization rate is estimated at 26.2 per 100,000 people.
Additionally, the data shows immunization rates are down 4% from last year and have been declining steadily since the 2022-2023 flu season.
