Nicki Minaj Sued for Alleged Concert Assault

Nicki Minaj is facing a new lawsuit from a former assistant who claims the rapper assaulted him on stage during a concert in Detroit last April. Brandon Jovan Garrett, who worked as a day-to-day manager for Minaj, alleges that she became angry with him over a task and responded by “open-handedly striking” him in the face. The incident allegedly occurred after an object was hurled at Minaj while she performed her hit song “Starships.” According to Garrett’s complaint, Minaj told him he would be “a dead man walking” if his husband saw him, before attacking him with a punch and a swipe on his wrist.

Minaj’s lawyer has denied the allegations, calling them “completely false and frivolous.” The lawsuit seeks damages for assault, battery, and emotional distress. This is not the first time Minaj has been accused of physical altercations while on tour – she and her husband were ordered to pay a $500,000 default judgment to a security guard over an alleged backstage beating in Germany in 2019.

Minaj’s lawyer has stated that if served with the complaint, it will be “resolved swiftly” in his client’s favor. The lawsuit was filed Friday and includes claims of assault, battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress as it seeks real and punitive damages to be determined at trial.
