Nvidia is set to launch several high-performance graphics cards in its RTX 50-series at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) next week. The first few models include an RTX 5090, RTX 5080, RTX 5070 Ti, and RTX 5070. Notably, the 5090 is expected to be a game-changer for performance-obsessed gamers, as it can outperform Nvidia’s previous flagship model, the RTX 4090.
According to reports, the RTX 5090 will come with an increased thermal design power (TDP) of 575W, surpassing the RTX 4090’s TDP of 450W. The RTX 5080 will also see a boost in TDP from 320W to 360W.
While this may seem like a significant increase, it’s worth noting that not all of this power is used during actual gaming. In fact, Nvidia suggests that its new cards could be highly efficient given their performance per watt.
However, if you’re planning to upgrade to an RTX 5090, you’ll need to consider a more powerful power supply. According to Nvidia’s recommendations, at least a 1,000W power supply will be needed to accommodate the card’s requirements while still providing enough power for other system components.
Nvidia is set to reveal more details about its new GPUs during its CES keynote on January 6th.
