Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has announced an expanded lineup of processors for artificial intelligence (AI) personal computers, targeting both consumer and commercial users. The company showcased its latest Ryzen processors, including the Ryzen AI Max, Ryzen AI 300 Series, and Ryzen 200 Series, at a preview event ahead of the official start of CES 2025.
The new Ryzen AI Max processors feature enterprise-grade security tools and are expected to offer up to 16 “Zen 5” CPU cores, 40 graphics compute units, and an XDNA2 NPU with up to 50 TOPS of AI processing ability. These chips will power ultraportable notebook PCs and provide seamless multitasking capabilities.
AMD has partnered with several computer vendors, including Dell Technologies, Acer, Asus, HP, Lenovo, and others, to offer Ryzen-powered PCs. The company also announced that its Ryzen AI Max processors will be available in the first quarter, while the Ryzen AI 300 Series and Ryzen 200 Series are expected to follow in the second and third quarters, respectively.
The news comes as AMD’s stock has been experiencing a slump, with a recent 3.9% gain on Friday bringing the price up to $125.37. Analysts have mixed opinions on the company’s prospects, with some, such as Rosenblatt Securities’ Hans Mosesmann, rating AMD stock as “buy” and predicting market share gains in central processing units and graphics processing units.
However, others, like Bernstein analyst Stacy Rasgon, remain cautious about the company’s performance. Despite this, AMD remains optimistic about its future prospects, with Jack Huynh, senior vice president and general manager of AMD’s Computing and Graphics Group, stating that the company is increasing its performance leadership in the market.
