Chiefs’ Regular Season Ends with Dominant Win, But Backups Struggle Against Broncos

The Kansas City Chiefs’ 15-0 regular season has come to an end, and they’re heading into the playoffs on high note after securing the AFC’s No. 1 seed. However, the team’s backup players didn’t put up a fight in Sunday’s season finale against the Denver Broncos.

In a 38-0 loss, Kansas City’s starters took a break, allowing some of the backups to see playing time. While there were no standout performances from the Chiefs’ bench, a few players showed promise.

Nikko Remigio led the team in receiving with nearly half of Carson Wentz’s yards and made an impressive 25-yard one-handed snag. Samaje Perine also impressed, converting a fourth down with a 13-yard catch-and-run. Jaden Hicks solidified his place on the team with five tackles and a batted pass.

On the other side, the Broncos played well against the Chiefs’ third- and fourth-string players. Bo Nix showed potential as the team’s long-term quarterback solution, while the defense remained strong.

For the Chiefs, cornerback Nazeeh Johnson struggled, getting burned deep by Courtland Sutton twice and tipping a touchdown pass to Keith Taylor. Kicker Harrison Butker missed his only attempt at a 51-yard field goal. Carson Wentz had a rough game, failing to move the offense and taking sacks.

The loss marked Kansas City’s first shutout since 2012, but hopefully it was a one-time aberration for Butker. The team will need him in the playoffs, along with other players who showed promise on Sunday.
